Drifter Ahoy!

Major flashback. (think black and white comic strip).

April 1996. Done with high school. Down because the girlfriend ditched (been six months now). Joined dad's junior college - will be weird to have a vice principal dad. So what to do next? Friends are all doing it, Nirat included, so... attempt the JEE!

April 1998. Done with junior college. Clinically depressed, neurotic girlfriend ditched (by me, for a change). Never gave the JEE (or any other competitive exam). So what next? Liked electronics, so join engineering.

August 2002. Done with Engineering... Recovering from twisted romantic intrigues. Managed distinction in final year on a whim, after two years in the 58% range. No jobs available. CAT too intimidatingly hard. What next? Shishir's keeping company, so... give the GRE.

April 2003. Done with GRE. Still ailing from twisted romantic intrigues I thought I'd recovered from. Damn good score in the GRE - 1480/1600. No real schols. What next? Friend who works referring for an interview in Pune. Give interview - 30 April!

6 May 2003. Forget the GRE. Join HSBC! No ambition in the workplace, just a naturally effective executive!

April 2005. (Change of scene - new country!) Goodness gracious I'll have been working almost two years next week! Screw the romantic intrigues! What about that writing thing? Do I want an MBA? Help, I've turned into a yuppie! How did I get here?

Hence the 9 year flashback (I feel so old!). Hope as hell I stop drifting sometime soon! :)

PS: Just spent the Saturday evening vegging out aimlessly before the TV, watching a Gilmore Girls marathon. Very flaky, smartly dialogued series. Is "dialogued" a real word?

You haven't really gotten there, you are passing by it. Work is what one does for a livelihood, not for living. What do U feel like doing for living? Keep that doing, and U won't feel like a yuppy. Ha ha.
